MEDICAL COMMUNITY Birmingham is nationally recognized as a major center in health care, treatment and research. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical Center has gained international acclaim for its work in cardiovascular research and surgery, diabetes research, cancer treatment and rehabilitation. The Medical Center Complex houses University Hospital, the Alabama Heart Hospital, Diebetes Hospital, Spain Rehabilitation Center, Lurleen B.
